Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at New York Deli and Pizza

We’re just a few days away from celebrating St. Patrick’s Day on Tuesday, March 17, 2020. While the holiday began as a way to honor Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, today, the holiday has become a light-hearted celebration. At its start, St. Patrick’s Day was celebrated in Ireland with feast days to honor Patrick. Today, you can still enjoy a feast at New York Deli and Pizza.

Stop by New York Deli’s Richmond Road location for a St. Patrick’s Day feast. You can order all of your favorites off our menu, including our famous Reuben Rye sandwich made with corned beef.

History of Corned Beef and St. Patrick’s Day

Traditionally in Ireland, people celebrated the St. Patrick’s Day feast day with Irish stew and soda bread or pork and potatoes. When Irish immigrants came to America, they likely shifted to corned beef and cabbage because it was less expensive.

Today, restaurants tip their cap to Irish Americans by adding inspired dishes, including corned beef and cabbage, to their menus.

St. Patrick’s Day at New York Deli and Pizza

Year-round, New York Deli in Williamsburg piles corned beef high for our Reuben Rye sandwich. Sliced hot corned beef is topped with sauerkraut, melted swiss cheese and a spread of thousand island dressing, then sandwiched between rye bread. Since sauerkraut is made of cabbage, this sandwich is a great way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

“Love this place but I’m stuck on the Reuben. I’ve never ordered anything else from here because, when I think of this place, it’s all about the Reuben.”

New York Deli also serves their corned beef on other sandwiches, including the New York Sub. Or, just order a corned beef sub, served hot or cold, with swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato and mayo.
